About
Wesley Black Ministries

Wesley Black, PhD, is husband to Sandi Black, father to Clay Black (married to Jessica). Father to Melissa Bagwell (married to Bryce Bagwell), and grandfather to Taylor Jones, the world’s most beautiful granddaughter (with pictures to prove it)! Following a brief time of service in the US Army and as a band director, he followed a call to vocational Christian service as a youth minister. This led to over 55 years of ministry with teenagers and their parents – learning about, writing about, and pouring life into student ministry. Thirty of those years were spent as Professor of Student Ministry in teaching future student leaders at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
God opened other doors in recent years and Wes has ministered with folks in the second half of life. For 16 years he has been ministering with Boomers and Senior Adults at Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX. Interestingly, many in this group were teenagers when Wes started his ministry with youth in the 1960s.
Wes has had the opportunity to dig deeper into the world of ministry through several significant national research projects. He has also developed the Lasting Faith scale to measure the possibility of student dropout after finishing high school. He has written a textbook on youth ministry that has been used around the world, several books on youth ministry, and numerous articles and books during his time as youth specialist at the Baptist Sunday School Board (now LifeWay).
